Griffin Theatre’s brilliant revival of David Williamson’s Emerald City opened in Sydney in 2014. Director Lee Lewis invited Ken, who coincidentally had designed the poster for the original production in the late eighties, to design the set for this new production.
The large-scale reproduction of one of his classic Sydney Harbour paintings filled the intimate Griffin space, a backdrop to this ‘part love letter, part hate mail to the harbour city’ (griffintheatre.com.au). Lewis remarked, “For me the whole idea of the Emerald City is captured by his vision of Sydney’s harbour”.
