Indian emerald reef, 2019 oil and acrylic on board 41 x 51 cm, $5,000
COVID-19 won’t be over for anyone until it’s over for everyone. As an ambassador for UNICEF Australia, Ken is donating this original work in support of the South Asia Emergency Appeal.
We have all watched the devastation unfold across India over the last few weeks. The crisis has seen the death toll surpass 300,000 and the total number of infections rise above 28 million in India alone, with true numbers feared to be much higher. In Nepal, the virus has spread to every province and district and in Sri Lanka, cases have increased by 275 per cent in the last month and there are fears the health system will collapse. The region now accounts for almost half of the world’s new COVID-19 cases.
"I feel incredibly fortunate to have had the opportunity to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and I would encourage everyone that is able to do the same. I rolled up my sleeve and had the Astra Zeneca vaccine, it’s the best thing we can do to protect each other and our loved ones.
Watching the situation in India over the past few weeks has been devastating, and my own vaccination has made me feel incredibly grateful for our health systems and access to vaccines.
I'm donating this artwork to UNICEF Australia’s COVID-19 India Appeal, so that our near neighbours in South Asia can have the same opportunity for vaccination that I have had.”
100% of the proceeds from the sale of Indian emerald reef, 2019 will help UNICEF to deliver life-saving oxygen, COVID-19 testing kits, personal protective equipment and continue the COVID-19 vaccine rollout to the most remote communities.
